redefining life with words & art

My name is Domenica. I hold a MSc, a Diploma from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute (VATI) and Parent Educator certificates from the Positive Discipline Association and the Gottman Institute.

My Experience

My experience includes working with a wide range of clients (children, adolescents and adults) with a range of issues: PTSD, trauma, bereavement, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and addictions. I bring an understanding of the therapeutic process, with the fine arts (as professional artist), educator and advocate (empowering children and families) to my career as Art Therapist.

My work with sensationalchildren.ca has afforded me over 10 years experience problem solving with families to uncover the beliefs behind misbehaviours and build a life they can be proud of.

My final project outlines my process towards developing and facilitating a Telehealth group art therapy to support adolescents and young adults during a global pandemic. At a time when we were all asked to isolate to avoid the spread of a virus, telehealth art therapy created a space of psychological safety and community. The telehealth art therapy group was able to provide participants with effective coping strategies to mitigate further mental health issues.

Continued Learner

I work towards a coherent approach to professional practice by continuously evaluating new ideas and theories of human personality, problem development, change processes and growth. I continue my own art making in order to shape and develop an art therapy practice centered on the continued growth of my clients. I practice self-compassion and nurture my own emotional and mental health. By cultivating my own ability to heal and transform, I can better help my clients move through their process of healing and self-discovery.

I believe in using art for self-discovery, sewing together the tapestry of my life as I move towards self-actualization.
